“Soul Makossa” – Manu Dibango

Writing this blog has made me realize that funk simply makes me happy.  And as evidenced by yesterday’s post that’s no easy feat.  It’s that time again, besties: Funk Friday.  Our Motto: Do what you feel.

Thank you, Cameroonian makossa saxophonist Manu Dibango.  I’d say it’s a succeess when the refrain of your song has been sampled or adapted in no fewer than 40 others songs over the course of 40 years.  The story of how this song became a hit in America is pretty fascinating and deserves a read.  This is the kind of story that keeps people dreaming and trying.  You never know.

If you’re looking to get your b-boys together for some breaking this weekend, this is just the song to start things off right.

In summary: This man is a badass.
