“People Get Up and Drive Your Funky Soul” – James Brown

Continuing on with yesterday’s hopes for happiness, today we give thanks to the Godfather of Soul for this track.  This song is nothing if not instructional and I suggest we all do as the man says.  I like the use of the word “drive,” which makes me feel that I have control over what I do with my funky soul.

For the cosmically minded, James Brown considerately included specific instructions for each astrological sign.  I’m particularly impressed with with the shout-out to my sign: “I said Pisces, holla, and drive your funky soul.”  Conversely, for the geographically minded, he also addressed the needs of several major metropolitan areas of the United States.  James Brown wants everyone to feel acknowledged.  He would make a good president.

Groovin’.  What would I have given to see James Brown perform live?  Several hundred dollars.

In summary: If you don’t get up and drive that funky soul after James Brown commands you to, over 30 times in nine minutes… I’m not sure that we can be friends, because when we go out places together I’m going to want to dance, and you’re just going to stand there.
