“Home” – Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros

This song came out in 2010 and has over nine million views on YouTube.  I only learned of its existence about a month ago so I guess I didn’t get the original memo.

I adore this.  I love the whistling and the down home rhythm.  Makes you want to hop in your busted old car and head west.  The lyrics are old fashioned and sweet as can be.  My favorite may be the spoken section which brings Johnny Cash and June Carter to mind.  You also get just a dash of melancholy.  Overall it’s a charming tune that is ideal for driving, frolicking in the prairie, or possibly riding a horse.  In all cases, the direction you’ll be heading in will be home.

In summary: Best enjoyed while wearing a cotton dress in faded floral and sipping some sweet tea on the porch.
